It’s hard to believe I’m old enough to have spent a decade anywhere, but for the past 10 years I’ve lived, worked, and studied in Baltimore City. And now that I’ve “been there and done that”, I’m back to my old stomping ground! I’m looking forward to my new career as a librarian, especially working with the teens of Washington County. I’m a graduate of St. Maria Goretti High School. I’ve earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Communications from Bridgewater College, a Master of Arts degree in Publications Design and Creative Writing from the University of Baltimore, and a Master of Library Science degree from Clarion University. Previous employers include everyone from the Baltimore Orioles, the Babe Ruth Birthplace and Museum, (I’m a huge sports fan) to the Baltimore City Council President. Before joining the Washington County Free Library, I worked as a Communications and Research Analyst for the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond. I’m a foodie at heart. And I enjoy spending time with my friends! I’m also the proud parent of a “perfect princess puppy”, my dog Beulah. She was a rescue and has since inspired me to volunteer for area animal and rescue shelters.
Right now I’m reading A Great and Terrible Beauty (The Gemma Doyle Trilogy) by: Libba Bray. The School Library Journal describes it as, “an interesting combination of fantasy, light horror, and historical fiction, with a dash of romance thrown in for good measure”. If you’ve read it, post about it on the Teens @ Washington County Free Library Facebook page, just click on the “Discussions” tab.
Look for me in the Children’s Department or up in the Teen Loft.

Congratulations on your new position with Washington County. Your NFTE family will miss having you just a stone throw away, but I am pretty sure you will find a way to stay connected. All the best,
Darlene
